L-shaped aquarium

Background:

Usually aquariums are shaped rectangual or perhaps cubic. These days the aquariums that are ment to be located at a corner of the room can be found easily. Also the arched front glass is quite common. However there is no reason that the shape of aquarium should be limited to these options. I have been planning to create a aquarium that is shaped like the word "L". This kind of aquaria may be hard to situate in the apartment but it could naturally be located in the corner of the room. The shape of this kind of aquariua is especially great because it allows you extremely large front view to the aquarium. Basically you have to front view in addition to the end views. The construction of L-shaped doesn't require any special planning excluding the base glass. Naturally this kind of aquaria might be impossible to bring to the house. Therefore you probably have to build it at the site. The picture below also includes the appropriate drillings and a second tank for the marine use. Don't pay any attention to these if no drillings are needed in your case.

Bottom glass:

In case of a small aquarium the bottom glass can be cut in the shape of a "L". My aquarium will be so large that single piece is impossible option. Therefore some unusual solutions are needed. Double glass are often used in large aquarium and the easiest way to produce a L-shaped aquaria uses the same method. To build L-shaded bottom glass you need 4 pieces of glass. They are stacked on top of each other in a way that all the parts have at least one layer of glass. When cutting the glass you should remember to leave some space for the silicone seam. Therefore the overall length of to shorter sides should be less than one longer side. For an example. If the overall lenght of aquariua is 150 cm the lenght of first glass should be 99.8 and the width of the secon glass should be 50 cm. This leaves a 2 mm. for the silicone seam.

Construction:

As the bottom glass has been build the rest of the aquaria can be assembled using the normal methods.

Finishing touch:

If the aquarium has been assembled correctly and with proper care the silicone is all you need to keep the aquaria together. Basically the silicone is always the actual force that keeps your aquarium intact. Everything else around your aquaria is there for a visual effect. If you are able to produce nice silicone seams your aquarium is ready to be filled as soon as the silicone has dried. Naturally you can add some decoration around the edges of the aquarium if this pleases your eye.. Keep in mind that moving this kind of aquarium is basically impossible. Especially if the aquarium is large. You may need to rip the whole thing apart in order to move it. Therefore you may want to use some extra time to think where you build this kind of aquarium. Think carefully all the aspects including the background picture and all the drillings of the stand. They all should be done in advance as it may be too late when the aquarium has been assembled.
